Yesterday, we wandered around some sand dunes in the high desert with our good friends. We talked about Jesus and wondered what it was like when He was wandering through the wilderness being tempted by the devil. Even though it was only 45 degrees for us, it was exhausting walking up and down the dunes. Was Jesus aware of His misery at that time? Surely He was starving, thirsty, hot and tired... but did His failing human body even cross his mind? Or was He so intent on obeying God and praying with Him?
The water in my bottle was such a strong contrast to the sand. Even though we were never more than a mile from our vehicles, I couldn’t help but think about what I would do if we were stuck out here with such a little amount of water. I knew the water in this bottle could never sustain us. On a bigger scale, it reminded me that no amount of anything on this planet could. There is only one. Jesus.
“Whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again.”
John 4:14
