Sweatshirt of the Month // March
Ordering open through March 21, 2021
Every month we create a limited, exclusive tee. These shirts are tied to a unique charity that is not one of our regular charity partnerships. The shirt is only available for purchase for one week and will not show up on our storefront after the purchasing period is up.
We are officially past the one year anniversary of COVID and I think it is safe to say that everyone has been affected by it in some way. It is no mystery that the last 12 months have been hard on all of us... it would take me a lot longer than an IG caption to list out all of the reasons why this is the case. However, I think one of the most damaging consequences to come from this last year is the alarming rise of depression and mental illness in people around the world (teens/young adults, specifically). I don't need to be a researcher to know that this year we have spent more time looking at screens and less time around the real people that love us than any year in the past. I am just as guilty of it than anyone else. 5, 6, or even 7 hours a day mindlessly scrolling on my phone until I just feel bad enough to not want to make an effort with the people in my life who actually care. "I'm fine" or "It's going okay" is pretty much all we can muster when someone actually asks how you're doing... I'm sure you can relate in some fashion.
Seeing as it has been exactly one year since our lives were turned upside down, we decided the most fitting place to donate our money was to a charity set up to give anyone in need mental health care and support. With the purchase of this shirt, we are donating 20% of the proceeds to NAMI -- the National Alliance on Mental Health. NAMI provides advocacy, education, support and public awareness so that all individuals and families affected by mental illness can live healthy, fulfilling lives supported by a community that cares.
I've always been a big fan of topographic maps. I find myself staring at them longer than I care to admit... intrigued by the heights of the mountains and depths of the rivers. Contrary to maps you might find at the beginning of a hike, I like how there are usually no specific paths to travel... no start and no end. Last year, I felt like I had a plan with a start and an end that made sense, and when that plan was ruined... I kind of felt like I was dropped down inside a topographic map. There was no path that made a lot of sense, but I figured if I just kept going, it would work out. So that is kind of my new mentality for Raga. You can forge your own path if you aren't worried about staying on a well established one. So I have said it before and I will say it again... keep going.
